How Bad Do You Want It

How Bad Do You Want It

How Bad Do You Want It?

I’ve been out of shape for quite some time. Call it ignorance. Call it laziness. Call it life gets in the way…

Part of ‘setting goals’ is to have a goal in the first place. Some call it ‘success’ or ‘to succeed’. And there is a part of ‘success’ and ‘succeeding’ that many are not willing to experience. That fee is called setbacks. Its ok. Some call it failure. When faced with these setbacks, there is a perfect environment that is established for wanting to quit.

Not seeing the results you had hoped for? Unrealistic expectations? Struggling to push that weight one more rep? Out of breath? Feeling some pain or discomfort? All of these symptoms are experienced by countless souls who seek to grow and succeed.

This isn’t germaine to only working out or fitness. Its true for business, relationships and mostly everything in life.

Nonetheless, you have to want it first. And let that be a driving force. Know what your ‘why’ is and let that fuel your want. Its not going to be easy but put in the work and I promise it will be worth it.

My journey started with a Challenge. Combined with a goal and a world class support structure, the goal is clear. Now its up to me to put in the work of consuming better nutrition, hydrating with water and exercising consistently with good form. Its not easy getting up and doing this, but it will be worth it.

How badly do you want it?

Rise and Shine

Rise and Shine

“6am and your hand can’t make it to the alarm clock before the voices in your head start telling you that it’s too early, too dark, and too cold to get out of a bed.

Aching muscles lie still in rebellion, pretending not to hear your brain commanding them to move

A legion of voices are shouting their unanimous permission for you to hit the snooze button and go back to dreamland, but you didn’t ask their opinion.

The voice you’ve chosen to listen to is one of defiance.

A voice that’s says there was a reason you set that alarm in the first place. So sit up, put your feet on the floor, and don’t look back because we’ve got work to do.

Welcome to The Grind!

For what is each day but a series of conflicts between the right way and the easy way, 10,000 streams fan out like a river delta before you, Each one promising the path of least resistance.

Thing is, you’re headed upstream. And when you make that choice, when you decide to turn your back on what’s comfortable and what’s safe and what some would call “common sense”, well that’s day 1. From there it only gets tougher.

So just make sure this is something you want. Because the easy way out will always be there, ready to wash you away, all you have to do is pick up your feet.

But you aren’t going to are you?
With each step comes the decision to take another

You’re on your way now

But this is no time to dwell on how far you’ve come. You’re in a fight against an opponent you can’t see

Oh but you can feel him on your heels can’t you?

Feel him breathing down your neck

You know what that is? That’s you…Your fears, your doubts and insecurities all lined up like a firing squad ready to shoot you out of the sky

But don’t lose heart

While they aren’t easily defeated, they are far from invincible

Remember this is The Grind

The Battle Royale between you and your mind, your body and the devil on your shoulder who’s telling you that this is just a game, this is just a waste of time, your opponents are stronger than you.

Drown out the voice of uncertainty with the sound of your own heartbeat

Burn away your self doubt with the fire that’s beneath you

Remember what you’re fighting for

And never forget that momentum is a cruel mistress, She can turn on a dime with the smallest mistake.

She is ever searching for that weak place in your armor

That one tiny thing you forgot to prepare for

So as long as the devil is hiding the details, the question remains,”is that all you got?”, “are you sure?”

And when the answer is “yes”. That you’ve done all you can to prepare yourself for battle THEN it’s time to go forth and boldly face your enemy, the enemy within
Only now you must take that fight into the open, into hostile territory
You’re a lion in a field of lions

All hunting the same elusive prey with a desperate starvation that says VICTORY is the only thing that can keep you alive

So believe that voice that says ” you CAN run a little faster ” and that ” you CAN throw a little harder ” and that ” you CAN dive a little deeper” and that, for you, the laws of physics are merely a suggestion.

Luck is the last dying wish of those who wanna believe that winning can happen by accident, sweat on the other hand is for those who know it’s a choice, so decide now because destiny waits for no man. And when your time comes and a thousand different voices are trying to tell you you’re not ready for it, listen instead for that lone voice in decent the one that says you are ready, you are prepared, it’s all up to you now.

So rise and shine.”

I’ll be at the gym or the field training if you need me…

The Challenge

Project 10 Challenge

The Challenge

I’ve struggled for quite some time with my weight. I’ve had some health issues (to say the least) and other ‘challenges’ to overcome. Lets face it, I’m a Fat Ass.

I say this not to offend anyone or to fat shame (apparently, thats a ‘thing’). That being said, I am obese by definition. I am 5’6″ and was nearly 270 lbs. Recently, I was challenged by a friend to lose 10 lbs. I was aware of The Challenge that is promoted by a company called ViSalus and I realized quickly that I needed to consider accepting this challenge for a number of reasons.

I observed the results that several friends had experienced by accepting The Challenge and following the Body by Vi (ViSalus) system. I have to say their results were compelling for me to consider accepting and promoting it as well. Those friends were experiencing consistent fat and weight loss with an increase in their energy levels. Reducing the unwanted inches was obvious. In short they really experienced phenomenal transformations. In speaking with them, the financial rewards they were receiving were equally impressive.

Lets talk a little about this system. Basically, its 2 meal replacements (protein shakes or cereal) per day. For someone such as me who is nutritionally lazy and has a semi-sedentary lifestyle working behind a screen, the Challenge and the system seemed reasonable and appropriate for someone like myself. The ‘Healthy Fast Food’ approach fits perfectly.

Thus far (at the time of this writing) I’ve lost 25 lbs. Instituting a little consistency with my nutrition and exercise, I’ve seen results that I’m extremely pleased to have experienced!

There are a few bonuses involved with accepting The Challenge. Firstly and very cool I might add, that by virtue of every 10lbs I lose, the company, ViSalus, donates 30 nutritional replacement meals to help fight Childhood Obesity. These meals are donated in my name and those who accept The Challenge and do the same to nutritional deficient children. Its a noble and worthy cause and the gesture by this company should be commended.

Additionally, I get to help people become more healthy! As a former hyperbaric wound care nurse specialist who spent 20+ years working with people who suffered from diabetes and unimaginable skin deformities and injuries (many were diet related), I can continue to make a positive effect on people’s lives but promoting nutritional, physical and financial wellness through The Challenge!

Oh yeah forgot to mention that ViSalus is also a Direct Selling company. By partnering with ViSalus as an Independent Promoter, those that accept and promote the challenge can be compensated financially. I see this as a Win-Win-Win scenario and I am proud to be affiliated.

So much so that I’ve decided to publish a Podcast called Fat To Fit Podcast, that will chronicle my transformation journey and of those that have accepted The Challenge as well.

In my opinion, combined with the success that this company and product line has provided, accepting and completing The Challenge will be a lot easier knowing that I have a winning recipe!

Discovering Content

Oh Man!

I’ve been procrastinating painting my front door to my house for almost a year. I finally decided to do it just to get the nagging out of the way and get that sucker painted! I took the opportunity to listen to some new Podcasts that I had been meaning to get to (can you see the theme around procrastination seemingly seeping through?) and now I had an excuse to listen uninterrupted whilst I did my best artistic rendering on my front door.

One podcast episode turned into about 4 or 5 by the time I finished the door and the door-jam etc. One of the Podcasts I listened to was the Milking It Podcast. I went in blindly and had no idea what this podcast would be about and I was pleasantly surprised. The podcast is about nothing going on in real world but more about geeky culture, wrestling, comics, movies, sit-coms, TV and more. Wow, a few dudes from the UK having a blast talking about this subject matter with wit and downright funny commentary was a pleasure to consume. I barely remembered painting the door. Alas the door turned out quite well.

Milking It

As some of you might know, I recently launched Podcasting Magazine for Newsstand on iTunes for iPhone and iPad. The magazine is an interactive digital magazine that is found exclusively on iOS (for now). The magazine features articles and interviews with podcast and content creators, product, gear and show reviews, how-to’s and more. In my brief search to identify groups related to podcasting on Facebook and other social networks, I announced the release of the magazine and asked for some show recommendations to review. To my delight, several people offered up their podcasts and recommendations. One of which was the Milking It Podcast with Boo Lamont and David Davies. If you are into geekery and entertainment, check out this podcast. It was really entertaining!

Sometimes a change in scenery and taking a chance to discover new content and engage with it is quite rewarding. I suspect that this week will be filled with new discoveries, new friendships and more content! There is a new playground that I’ve discovered over at iTunes and its filled with content waiting to be discovered and explored.

Thrilled To Publish Podcasting Magazine for iTunes Newsstand

Podcasting Magazine

I am thrilled and excited to announce that I’ve developed and published Podcasting Magazine and it is now available on iTunes Newsstand for iPhone and iPad.

The magazine primarily exists to introduce podcast content creators through exclusive interviews and show reviews. The magazine will also feature product and gear reviews, how-to’s and more as it relates to digital content distribution through audio and video podcasting.

My hope is to network with existing, new and would be podcasters to connect and bring their shows to readers of Podcasting Magazine.

Its been a blast thus far discovering new shows and consuming their content. I’m learning a ton from the show formats, the delivery styles of the show hosts and the content subject matter. I can say without hesitation that the hosts have been gracious with their time and pleasant to work with when I’ve reached out with an interview request.

I welcome you to come check out Podcasting Magazine and give it an honest review. There is a lot planned for future issues and look forward to bringing you quality articles, how-to’s, interviews, reviews and more.

Find Something That Has Magic In It For You

Recently, I read a blog post by Scott Ginsberg in which he shared a short interaction between a famous film director and his son who like many children decided to pursue something different with their lives than their parents for whatever the reason. In short, the son decided to go “Pre-Med” because ‘nobody questions a decision to become a doctor’.

Although the son’s decision to go Pre-Med may typically be a noble one which is also considered a desirable goal, choosing that path or any path for that matter for the wrong reasons would be tragic.

The blog post resonated with me on a number of levels. Particularly because I chose a similar path and spent over 20 years in the health care industry. Although I was good at what I did and helped countless people and their families along the way, it was not magical for me. Don’t get me wrong, I found a lot of satisfaction and joy helping people over the years. There are a lot of memories and stories there. One might argue that my sentiment can be perceived as selfish. And perhaps that is true in some respects, but it is also very true that if you don’t do something that has magic in it for you with your life that you are short changing yourself and those that could be exposed to what you are meant to do.

When Star Wars first came out, I was a young Jedi…I mean boy. I’ve been a major Star Wars Geek ever since. For me Star Wars is magical. The story and characters are a reality that I like to visit to experience that magic. I know I am not alone because a tribe of Star Wars enthusiasts exists. That provides a connection as evidenced by the ‘secret handshake’ references people often make in everyday conversation, social networks and even other movies. The very storyline of struggle between good and evil, right and wrong, supposed to do and not-supposed to do (Do or Do Not, there is No Try!) is the essence behind this very post.

Like many others, I’ve hesitated to pursue something I thought would or might be awesome to do. For whatever the reasons, whether it was self doubt or worrying about what others would think or how they might view me for doing so, only to wonder “what if?”!

There have been countless times that I thought about something or had an idea only to later discover somebody else was doing the very thing that I thought would be fun or cool to do and even worse, running a business around a concept and thriving!

Recently, I watched a video in which the speaker was remarkable for reasons you’ll discover below in which he  was able to procure interviews with people and celebrities one might consider unreachable. His suggestion is “Just Ask and Do It Yourself!”. An incredibly brave sentiment and courageous motto indeed and it correlates perfectly.

Recently, I decided to pursue something that is magical for me. I created a mobile app and newsststand magazine for the iPhone and iPad around subject matter that I think is simply awesome. I’m thrilled to announce that Podcasting Magazine was approved and is now available on iTunes for iPhone and iPad. Combining two amazing technologies (Podcasting and Mobile Apps) and leveraging equally amazing devices in the iPhone and iPad holds real magic for me.

By leveraging these emerging technologies, it is now possible to potentially reach anyone that has an iPhone, iPod or iPad with the content that I create or provide. The newsstand magazine app medium is a blast because you can provide  information to would be readers that can be consumed and interacted with in various forms like audio (Podcasts), Video and articles. There are many more reasons how this differentiates from running a blog or a website but thats for a different post for a different time. Nonetheless, it holds magic and allows me to connect with a countless number people from all over the world and still provide help.

My hope for you is that you find something that is magical for you and pursue it.

Mobile App Formula Book

My First Amazon Kindle Book: Mobile App Formula

Mobile App Formula Book

I’m am stoked to announce that I just published my first Kindle book to and the title is Mobile App Formula – How To Develop Mobile Apps Even If You ARe Not A Programmer.

It was a blast to write this book and I truly hope it brings value to a lot of individuals, businesses and organizations looking to develop their first or next mobile app.

Below is a description of the book and a special Bonus if you invest in the book.

“In this quick and ACTIONABLE read, Drew explains to you how how almost anyone can develop mobile apps for the iPhone, iPad and Android devices even if you are not a programmer. The apps that you’ll be able to develop and publish are robust with features and functionality that any user would value.

One of the questions I hear all the time from people is “How Do I Build An App?” and the answer to that question is not a singular response. Instead there are multiple methods of building or developing an app from learning to program in a multitude of languages to outsourcing. Each of those methods bring pros and cons to building apps which we’ll discuss in later chapters of this book as a frame of reference. However, this book isn’t really about either of those methods.

Instead, this book will discuss How to Develop (Build) Mobile Apps Even If You Are Not A Programmer. I will specifically discuss resources that allow almost anyone to develop mobile apps for the iPhone, iPad and Android devices without needing to know one line of code. The point being, that it will reduce the hurdles to actually develop apps. Remember its one thing to want to develop an app. Its different to actually take massive action and do it.

Why is this important? Well by democratizing the technology, it allows almost anyone to create and publish a mobile app instead of wondering how to do so. Better yet, it shifts the focus towards the ‘why and what’ someone can publish as well as actually doing it and publishing the app. Big Difference!

If you did the slightest bit of research, one might find the information about how the numbers of mobile devices available, delivered and consumed on the market today are reaching incredible numbers. I could state some of those figures and statistics but almost immediately after I hit the proverbial ‘publish’ button, those stats would be out of date. Alas, as an example I will post a recent stat I read at the time of this writing: Tablet figures (yes tablet figures alone) estimated to climb to 500 Million by the year 2015. That is an astonishing number. One can only imagine the potential of mobile reach on all mobile devices in the years to come.

Its widely discussed that having a mobile presence is the next big frontier and would be within reason for almost anyone or any business to consider developing a mobile application. Again, we are not discussing about creating the next Angry Birds, Clash of The Clans or Candy Crush here. However, getting started creating apps and understanding the app stores and markets could lead to interest and gathering the skill-set or required knowledge to start those types of development projects. Or not.

That being said, this book is more about developing apps that will have an audience for your content. Apps that are about your business, industry or organizations can be a powerful tool and extension that connects you through a medium that has become very natural and widely accepted by a lot of people.

We will discuss some features and functionalities that can be built into these apps and the benefits of utilizing them, and how you or someone you know that has an interest in developing an app can get started! ”

Everything Is Amazing And Nobody is Happy

“Everything is amazing and nobody is happy” by Louis CK via Conan

Although this video is somewhat dated, the relevancy holds truth for almost any generation…or it will at some point.

This post is therapeutic for me and I hope that if you are reading it, that it provides some value to you or might be of help to someone you know.

I took a long time off from writing and wanted to start with something new. I am quite impatient and try to analyze too much. So much so that it paralyzes my creativity and ability to publish or as Seth Godin says, “Ship”!

So indeed, everything is amazing and I was not happy. I have been busy with a lot of projects in app development among other things…like working on ‘me’….getting my head straight.

Without getting too personal, I’ve made some mistakes and have certainly been depressed for quite some time. Despite so, I’ve been working through it and its time to get shit done.

As the video implies, everything is pretty awesome…..perhaps its time to re-invent myself and create some of my own awesome.
